The app is for busy professionals and those with limited time. The primary persona is tech savvy and thus will likely not be taken in by aesthetic appeal or the warm embrace of “retro modern”. 
Modern Retro
The theme here is simplicity, restraint, structure. Clean lines with rounded corners, and just a touch of nostalgia for the ornate.
Optimism Reborn
This theme is inspired by the colors of summer in the Mediterranean. The lines are crisp, assertive, and inviting.  The feel is enthusiastic without naivety.
Takeaway
The energetic feel and no-fuss attitude of “Optimism Reborn” is the better direction both for its wider appeal and its crisp high-contrast color scheme will provide greater visual clarity and set the tone for the right state of mind to set out and achieve a goal.
